Problems solved for internal and external customers

Internal: Prevent schedule slippage by executing tile tasks to plan and by coordinating substrate readiness, enabling downstream trades to proceed without delay.
Internal: Reduce rework and inspection failures by applying consistent installation technique and enforcing on‑site quality checks, saving project time and cost.
Internal: Minimize tool and material loss through proper handling and basic maintenance, preserving project budgets and crew productivity.
External (owner/GC/clients): Deliver finished tile surfaces that meet aesthetic and performance specifications, improving customer satisfaction and reducing punch‑list items at turnover.
External (other trades): Provide reliable, timely labor support and accurate layout that simplifies adjacent trade installations (e.g., cabinetry, plumbing fixtures), reducing coordination friction.
External: Maintain a safe work environment that reduces client exposure to incidents and supports positive site safety records.

\n\n

Key skills, abilities and knowledge required

Technical skills: Proficient in tile setting techniques (cutting, dry‑layout, thinset application, tile alignment, grout application and finishing), substrate preparation, waterproofing membranes and basic leveling/flatness correction methods.
Tools and equipment: Competence with tile saws, wet saws, nippers, trowels, floats, mixing equipment, levels, laser/line tools, grinders and common portable power tools; ability to perform routine maintenance and safe operation.
Measurement & layout: Ability to read simple drawings, take basic site measurements, perform layout and squaring, and transfer dimensions under direction from supervisors or installers.
Quality awareness: Knowledge of applicable installation standards, material handling best practices, joint tolerances, grout/fill sequencing and methods to prevent common defects (lippage, hollow spots, inconsistent grout joints).
Safety & compliance: Understanding of site safety rules, PPE requirements, hazard communication, and safe manual handling; ability to follow safety plans and participate in toolbox talks and inspections.
Physical abilities: Sufficient stamina and dexterity to perform sustained manual labor, kneel/crouch, lift and carry tile and mortar loads within safe limits, and work at heights on scaffolds when required.
Interpersonal & teamwork: Ability to follow direction, communicate status clearly to leads and craft crews, coordinate material staging, and accept feedback for continuous improvement.
Problem solving: Practical judgement to identify immediate corrective actions for common site issues (substrate defects, minor tooling failures) and escalate complex problems appropriately.
Development needs: Candidates should be prepared to develop proficiency in advanced setting techniques, reading complex shop drawings, and basic layout calculations to progress performance against OKRs.
